FAQs

Straight answers about ethical rehoming, safeguarding, and how HomeWagger works.

About HomeWagger

What it is, what it isn’t, and why it’s built differently.

What is HomeWagger?

HomeWagger is welfare-first rehoming infrastructure for the UK — a platform where adopters, rehomers, and shelters can connect through calmer steps, clearer information, and safer boundaries (no selling, no pressure).

It’s designed around Expressions of Interest (EOIs) as the first step and gated messaging (conversations open only after an EOI is accepted) to reduce inbox chaos and rushed decisions.

Is HomeWagger a charity?

HomeWagger is a hybrid social enterprise: HomeWagger CIC protects the welfare-led mission, and HomeWagger Tech Ltd builds and maintains the software so it can be sustainable long-term.

Is HomeWagger a marketplace?

No. We don’t allow dog sales, bidding, or pay-to-win visibility. Suitability and welfare come first — for every dog.

Is HomeWagger just for dogs?

Yes — for now. We’re focused on dogs so we can do one thing exceptionally well.

For Adopters

What to expect when you’re adopting through a calm, welfare-first process.

How do I adopt a dog through HomeWagger?

Create an adopter profile, set preferences, then browse dogs. When a dog feels like a genuine fit, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). If the shelter/rehomer accepts, messaging opens to continue the conversation.

What is ethical dog adoption?

Ethical adoption prioritises long-term welfare and stability over speed — with honest information, thoughtful matching, and time to decide well.

Do I need to pay to adopt a dog?

HomeWagger doesn’t charge adoption fees. Some rescues may request an adoption donation/fee to support the dog’s care (not profit).

Will I still be vetted before I adopt?

Yes. Shelters and rehomers remain fully in control of approvals and may still use applications, checks, and home visits as needed.

For Rehomers

Responsible rehoming, clearer boundaries, and safer ways to manage interest.

Can individuals list dogs for rehoming?

Yes — if the listing aligns with welfare-first standards. Selling, breeding, and profit-driven listings aren’t permitted.

More detail: Rehoming a dog responsibly.

Are listings reviewed before going live?

Yes. Listings are reviewed to reduce risk and ensure they meet welfare-first guidelines.

Can I choose who adopts my dog?

Yes — you stay in control. HomeWagger helps you manage structured interest and communicate safely, but the decision is yours (or your rescue’s).

What is ethical dog rehoming?

Ethical rehoming focuses on the right home, not the quickest one — using honest information and safeguards to reduce rushed or unsafe placements.

For Shelters & Rescues

Designed for busy teams: earlier screening, calmer workflows, less admin drain.

Can our shelter use HomeWagger?

Yes. Shelters can list dogs and manage interest through EOIs, with messaging opening only after acceptance — helping reduce inbox chaos.

What is HomeWagger Pro?

HomeWagger Pro is an optional shelter toolkit with deeper operational tools (profiles, analytics, team/workflow features). It never boosts listings and never changes fairness — it funds infrastructure and reduces admin.

See: HomeWagger Pro.

Is there a cost for shelters?

A free shelter tier is available. Pro is optional for teams that want deeper operational tooling.

How does HomeWagger help reduce repeat rehoming?

By improving clarity early: structured profiles, EOIs for calmer screening, and better communication boundaries — reducing rushed mismatches.

General

Availability, costs, and the basics.

Is HomeWagger free to use?

Yes — core features for adopters and rehomers are free. Shelters can use a free tier too, with optional Pro tools available.

When does HomeWagger launch?

Launching in 2026: web first, with iOS and Android to follow. Join the waitlist for updates.

Is it legal to rehome a dog privately in the UK?

In most cases, yes. It should be done responsibly: be honest, avoid dog sales, and use safeguards that protect dogs and adopters.

How is this different from a pet marketplace?

No dog sales, no bidding, no paid visibility. HomeWagger is built around welfare-first information, EOIs for calmer screening, and messaging boundaries that reduce pressure.

How do I get help if I still have questions?

Still unsure?

Start with the safeguarding behind the platform — it explains most of the “why” in one place.
